P-Pop Is The New Genre for Philippine Pop Music?

Pop Girls Philippines

The rebirth of Philippines Pop Music has finally come and get its another Philippine Girl Group called POP GIRLS which I previously posted on this blog consisting of 5 members: Lai, Mar, Nadine, Schai and Rose.

Check out their “Crazy, Crazy” music video below. Is it hot or not?

video credit: darra724@YT

There’s K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, T-pop and now its time for P-pop (Philippine Pop). They obviously got the MV concept from Wonder Girls and 2NE1 and not to mention the other Korean Girl Groups like F(x) and 4minute. Their outfits? Nah, they need to get their own concept like having their own idea from their stylist, not just getting the idea of Korean Music trends.

Srsly, I think their voice is not that bad at all, but they got the english-tagalog language concept on the lyrics just like K-pop which usually have english-korean language. If you’re a K-pop addict, you know what I mean. Hehe.

I can see the “heart” gesture sign on this video which some of us know that it’s a trademark gesture in Korea using both hands and making a heart form. Aish.

I think they need more time to practice since they lack of timing on their choreo. Maganda panoorin kapag sabay-sabay sila sumayaw, walang nagpapaunahan. Right?. These girls have lots of potential if their manager will coordinate them in a right way just like what Korean talent agencies did on their talents/artists. Just remember what Park Jin Young said “No to slave contracts!“. Haha!

@GISSELE, well, kasi may talent agency kasi na parang the treated their talents unfair, parang ung talents is sunod-sunuran nalang dun sa manager, katulad ung hot issue ngayon sa Korean Entertainment between SM Entertainment & the 3 members of DBSK. Kaya etong si JYP, nasabi nya na “no slave contracts” kasi dahil dun sa issue bet. the talent agency and their talents. ^^ Sorry kung magulo ung explanation ko haha. :D

Oh yea, I already saw this. Somebody posted the video on Tumblr. Oh well, It’s not that I hate this but can they just be original? They’re vocals are good though.

it looks like a cheap kpop rip off..so it’s a fail for me…if we’re gonna copy their style shouldn’t we make it better..but their MV looks amateurish, their dance so blah..and i think they need to find clothes that fit them (looks good on them). what looks good on kpop idols doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll look good on everyone. if we want ppop to take off then we should think about the concept thoroughly and not just do a half-assed job.

natawa naman ako dun, masyado naman silang trying hard diba kung ganon tsaka expect narin dapat nila na not everyone most esp. Kpop addicts appreciate their girl group. hay ewan. masama na kung masama, pero hindi talaga maganda ung idea na to, P-pop. LOL.

i really don’t like this. no offense but the group, song, their style, the choreography and everything are all unoriginal. it would have been much better if they had their own concept but i should say that the girls are quite pretty nevertheless, they still need more practice.. as in a lot of practice. kpop artists had to train for several years before they debut. these group seems like they have just been casted yesterday and will perform today.

@supercutie, yeah, that’s what i’m talking about. parang biglaan nalang ung pagsabak nila sa paggawa ng girl group. wala nga atang naganap na debut debut eh? bigla-bigla mo nalang makikita sila nagpeperform kung saan saan…

Well, its a start!! ^-^… I’m afraid it’d turn into a novelty that doesn’t get anywhere… On the other hand, other ASEAN countries’ local music scene have been highly influenced by C/J/K/T-Pop genres and fashion for nearly a decade (type in “MahaDewi – Lakukan Dengan Cinta” and “RAN – Thank God Its Friday” from Indonesia, or “Tata Young – Ready for Love” from Thailand on youtube to see whats popular in those countries right now: equal budget, but much more developed style than PH’s late 80’s / early 90’s sounding bands and cheaply covered ballad singers… seeing a visual comparison with its immediate ASEAN neighbors shows the dire need for the Philippines to embrace Asian music styles and fashions full-on, and modernize! :D

    I’v got my own side…. : GIVE THEM A CHANCE….
but nega din naman….: alisin niyo yung fat girl please… siya lng…i hate her chin…her jaw’s not corrected giv her some braces…
THEY’RE YOUNGER than any other k-pop groups…even younger that snsd actually…but ka-age nila c tamin ahahah…kaya cguro d p mxadong focused…cguro magiging complicated dn ang choreography pag tagal….

so GIV THEM A CHANCE…and ALISIN NIYO NA SI FAT INCORRECT JAW GIRL….mejo nakakasira…

this part is omitted, no plugging of sites please. your name is already linked to your blog/site anyway

You serious, people? This is a step in the right direction. Sure it’s not original, but Philippines has had plenty of time to take off with original music. Goodness knows that Philippines is notorious for imitating, but this is the first step that they needed to take to get the ball rolling. Originality will come with time, but for now, keep momentum and work with what you can. I like this. Step in the right direction.

P.S. Tagalog is definitely not the most pleasant language on the ears. In fact, many would describe it as abrasive. I think the song writer did a very good job on finally taking the language and focusing more on the music and melody, thus a much more pleasant pace for the language: Nice and slow. It sounds very smooth. Good job.

I would just like to say for those of you bashing Pop Girls..Lemme remind you that
THe FiLIPINO music industry is in a dying state of cheesy ballads, revivals, and people with amazing voices who only sing songs to show off their vocal pitch.
Give props to them, because at least IT is an original song, written by Filipino composers and producers.

@Do not understand Filipino Music Industry, yeah it is an original song but with unoriginal mv concept and unoriginal fashion..we have to remember that many filipinos have been kpop fans for a really long time so seeing the MV would bring chaos..i hate the fact that viva entertainment said that “the girls might be better than other asian groups”-so not gonna happen! the girls only trained for 2 months while other kpop and jpop groups train for years before they debut..and look..very few ever make it big outside asia

    Impressioniste Reply:

@Popugh!, They only trained for 2 months? O_O
Ugh, now I know why their dancing needs help. If they seriously trained for at least 2 years like in Korea, they’d shine more, but 2 months?! Come on.

I have to admit that they have singing talent, but that’s it. I mean, I’m not bashing, I’m simply pointing out the obvious. And their looks are too average…that’s why they don’t stand out.

I’m a K-Pop loving Filipino, and I’m not hating, and I think P-Pop would grow like C/K/J/T-Pop, but they just really need development. They truly have potential, just really need better concept, and most of all: MORE training.

Oh, and I hate how they just imitate the heart hand gesture thing. Get your own trademark thing, please. And the name really needs to be more creative…

the whole thing does not give off a very good impression but…..Most Korean Music/Fashion/Trends doesn’t even have originality AND they’re copying it?!!! (i’m a kpop fan but I’M not blind to its set backs)lolz…

it seems like they formed this group just to ride on the trend…if they do it this way, it doesn’t even matter if they’ve taken a step, they’ll have difficulty moving further…

the group and all else, only one word came to mind == HALF-BAKED…

p-pop? seriously? at a glance, I read it as ‘poop’
They don’t even look good in those kind of clothes
I’m not being racist here, but if they were “inspired” by Kpop and/or Jpop They should at least be half-korean/japanese or atleast look good in it
And I think everyone agrees on their dancing
    It sucks
    i simply don’t like them
Im sorry but thats what my opinion is

    not bad..

e ano kung di original? why should originality be a big factor? even kpop probably copied some style at the beginning..

the clothes? well, yes, their concept is definitely kpop-ish but maybe, hopefully, they’ll experiment some more in to making it more Filipino like.. (pero ano nga ba ang Filipino like na concept para sa pop? e pop in itself e foreign na concept?)

about the taglish.. medyo mahirap nga para sa atin na ma-appreciate ang isang taglish o mix na kanta.. kase, di tulad ng mga koreano at mga hapones, kaya nating kumanta, magsalita at umintindi ng diretsong ingles.. kaya kapag taglish yung kanta, parang mababa ang level..

over-all, i’m not a fan, but not bad at all.. i hope we can be more open-minded..

kung iisipin, ang nilamang lang naman ng kpop groups e masmaayos yung execution ng sayaw.. other parts from this video are basically what you’ll expect from a pop group..

there’s a new ppop group. XLR8. try to listen to them. the intro sound very much like suju’s sorry sorry. pusthan pa tayo. promise.

but…let’s give a chance to ppop, okay? kasi in the first place, kung hindi namin natin alam ang kpop, we would like the way ppop sounds diba? kung iisipin, tignan nyo..tayong mga pilipino ang nagmumukhang tanga. kasi naman iniidolo natin yung kpop na KOREAN. samantalang sarili nating music, WE CAN’T EVEN APPRECIATE IT. diba?!?! para bang…”PINOY YAN, TULAD MO. EDI PARANG INAAYAWAN MO ANG SARILING KALAHI MO. SAMANTALANG YANG MGA KOREANONG YAN NA WALA NAMANG GINAWA SA ATIN, INIIDOLO.”

I’m also being open-minded. kasi ganon naman tlga ang nangyayari diba?!?

LET’S SUPPORT OUR OWN MUSIC! KAYA HINDI TAYO9 UMUUNLAD EH! TAS MAGREREKLAMO KAYONG HINDI TAYO UMUUNLAD! E SINO NAMAN KAYONG MGA UMIIDOLO NG KPOP?!? EDI KAYO RIN ANG MAY KASALANAN! KAYA SUPORTAHAN NATIN ANG SARILING ATIN!

I’m not against anything, nor kpop. sorry to anyone who got offended.
    its just true, right?

I’m actually disappointed right now… Not because of them but because of the comments. I understand how people seem to dislike this idea… But, if you think about it… Kayo naman yung humingi nito eh.

Lahat naman ng music borrowed. You guys try making a song that’s 100% original… Kaya niyo ba yun?

But you know what pisses me off the most?!?
Mga pinoy ang may ayaw…. MY GOD! WHY CAN’T YOU LOVE YOURSLEF???? WHY MUST YOU HATE AND EVERYTHING A FILIPINO DOES? WHY CAN’T YOU AT LEAST GIVE THEM A CHANCE? THEY JUST STARTED AND WHAT YOU EXPECT THEM TO BE FAMOUS RIGHT AWAY? NOT EVERYONE GET’S THAT CHANCE. IF YOU WANT THEM TO CONTINUE DOING SLOW SONGS THEN HOW ARE SUPPOSED TO GET THE INTERNATIONAL APPEAL.

Plus, kpop is not original. Mas na-una ang j-pop. Why is everyone only giving kpop and jpop the ‘love.’
Bahala kayo… Let this country be trashed. Matapunan tayo ng basura. Sige lang. Sa bagay, basura naman talaga ang pilipinas diba? Pero alam niyo kung bakit? Dahil kayo ang basura.

Listen to their other songs, a good one is true love =>=>=>=> (Do you have that for the Philippines?)
